Vespa Celebrates 80 Years of Iconic, Style and Innovation

WHEELDRIVE – April 23, 1946 marked the birth of Vespa, a two wheeled revolution that became a global symbol of freedom, style, and optimism. Eighty years later, Vespa continues to connect its rich heritage with modern innovation, creating a timeless identity that resonates across generations.

Originally developed in Pontedera to support post war mobility, Vespa was designed to be accessible, easy to ride, and suitable for everyone. This vision transformed urban transportation and empowered new forms of independence, including greater mobility for women.

Over the decades, Vespa has evolved into more than just a scooter. It is a cultural icon deeply rooted in cinema, fashion, music, and art. With more than 160 models produced, Vespa maintains a consistent design language defined by clean lines, elegant surfaces, and a perfect balance between function and aesthetics. Today, Vespa stands as a symbol of Italian design that continues to innovate without losing its identity.

Vespa’s legacy is also shaped by collaborations with world renowned artists and designers. From Salvador Dalí’s artistic interpretation in 1962 to Giorgio Armani’s refined Vespa 946 in 2015, each collaboration reflects the brand’s creative spirit.

Designers like Sean Wotherspoon brought bold, street art inspired concepts, while Maison Christian Dior under Maria Grazia Chiuri introduced one of the most luxurious Vespa designs ever created. More recently, Justin Bieber launched a striking all white Vespa, and in 2025, Urs Fischer and Frank Gehry presented unique Vespa Primavera artworks supporting the Special Olympics.

As Vespa celebrates its 80th anniversary, the brand introduces the Vespa Sprint 80TH, Vespa Primavera 80TH, and Vespa GTS 80TH. These special editions revive the original Pastel Green color from the 1946 model, combined with modern finishes and refined details.

The design features tone on tone elements, premium materials, and historical references such as the iconic Vespa 98 wheel design and Est. 1946 signature.

Complementing the vehicles, the Vespa 80TH ANNIVERSARY collection brings the brand’s style into everyday fashion. The collection includes varsity jackets, field jackets, t shirts, polo shirts, and accessories designed with a modern urban identity. A coordinated jet helmet with advanced safety features and contemporary design completes the collection.

Celebrating 80 years of Vespa means celebrating freedom, creativity, and a lifestyle that continues to inspire people around the world. Vespa remains not just a scooter, but a timeless icon that keeps evolving into the future.
